Switching at renewal usually has no penalty. Staying can still be right, but only after you have seen what other lenders will do with the same credit and the same remaining balance. Bring the letter. Most transfers are handled by the new lender. You do not have to visit a branch to stay or leave.

What is in the bank letter
Rate, term, remaining amortization, and a deadline. It is an offer. Bring the letter, the current balance, and whether you still use a prepayment privilege or a HELOC sitting beside the mortgage. Most switches at maturity are handled by the new lender. You do not have to visit a branch to stay or leave.
